The Kemi Adetiba directed movie ‘King of Boys’ had its premiere on Sunday, October 21, 2018.

The movie stars Sola Sobowale, Adesua Etomi, Reminisce, Jide KosokoToni Tones and others.

King of Boys follows the story of Alhaja Eniola Salami, (played by Sola Sobowale) a businesswoman and philanthropist with a checkered past and a promising political future. She is a pillar in the society loved by many, feared by most, and truly known by a select few.

As her political ambitions see her outgrowing the underworld connections responsible for her considerable wealth, she is drawn into a power struggle that threatens everything she holds dear.

After watching the movie, Pulse brings to you 5 things you should know about King of Boys;

1) There is no one like Sola Sobowale

King Of Boys Movie And Three Things To Watch Out For

This veteran actress became a household name as far back as 1992 for her role in the Nollywood Yoruba movie classic known as ‘Asewo to re Mecca‘. Across her glittering career, she has notable worthy performances including Toyin Tomato in the debut season of Wale Adenuga’s ‘Super Story’.

After keeping a low profile for a while, Sobowale reminded Nigerians about her acting prowess in the 2016 smash hit ‘The Wedding Party’. Her new role in King of Boys is a reminder that there is no one actress who can bring the drama better than Sola Sobowale.

The veteran actress gave a virtual one-woman show in the movie. Her performance ranged from a gang leader, savvy politician, caring mother to an emotional wreck. Her range is unbelievable. With almost three decades in the game, it is safe to say Sola Sobowale has no rival in the business.

2) Reminisce is Nollywood’s bad guy

The Nollywood scene has always had an actor who was the go-to-guy to act the role of the bad guy/gang leader/armed robber/cultist.

In the 90s, the insanely talented Segun Arinze dominated this role. In the 00s, Hanks Anukuwas never tired of playing the role of the menacing hoodlum.

For the most part in this decade, the new era of Nollywood has done away with this type of actor as it has focused more on studs than gangsters…that is until now.

Reminisce playing the role of an underboss in King of Boys has laid a strong claim on why he should be Nollywood’s next bad guy. The award-winning rapper stole the scene in the movie and matched Sola Sobowale’s energy on several occasions.

Reminisce’s role as Makanaki is more impressive when you discover that this is his acting debut. The rapper should consider going into acting full time.

3) It’s time for Toni Tones to go big

The beautiful Toni Tones started off as a talented photographer then pivoted into a budding singer. Later on, she would try acting to express her creative energy.

While she has acted in a few movies, Toni Tones has been among the pack of upcoming actresses vying for the chance to be Nollywood’s next screen goddess. Her role in King of Boys has now separated her from the pack.

In King of Boys, Toni Tones used the amount of her screen time she had to show to impress. Acting as a young Sola Sobowale (far from an easy feat), Tones delivered a performance that bested some of the more notable actors in the movie.

If all goes according to plan, casting directors should be knocking her door to land her a leading role in a big Nollywood movie anytime soon. Based on her performance in King of Boys, she is ready for this opportunity.

King of Boys will hit the movie screens on Friday, October 26, 2018.
